The perfect New Year's Eve outfit

Today being New Year's Eve, we all want to look extra pretty. I would like to share some interesting ideas for the perfect new years outfit! This holiday season we are interested in LBD, LRD, Lace, Color-block and sequin (the more sparkle, the better).
New year outfit ideas
LBD  – The Little Black Dress is a classic. The LBD can be in many different styles and is appropriate for any occasion; it could be a floor length strapless evening gown or a knee length semi-formal dress. Black can be worn with any color you like (red, pink, green, blue, gold, purple, silver or any other color). You can pair up your black dress with different accessories, some of which are also our favorite trends this holiday season– sequin clutch or shoes, color-block clutch, shoes or jewelry, sparkly jewelry and others you can think of. You just have to experiment and see what look you like the most.

LRD – The Little Red Dress is the alternative to a LBD. It is bright, bold and beautiful.  You can pair it up with some really nice accessories. You can go with simple black accessories (shoes, a clutch etc.) or you could experiment a bit with some more interesting pieces like a sequin clutch or shoes, some nice sparkly jewelry and so on. You could also experiment with your lip color and decide which is more you - bold red lips to match your dress or a neutral lip color.

SEQUIN – It’s New Year’s Eve and I’m sure we all want to look extra special. New Year’s Eve is all about sparkle. Who says only celebrities can sparkle?! Everyone can look like a celebrity for one night in an amazing sequin dress in whatever color you like – gold, silver blue, green, ivory and many more colors to choose from. You can also go with a pretty sequin top and some dark pants. Everyone looks good in a sequin dress, beyonce in her gold floor length dress, or Eva Longoria in a strapless knee length silver sequin dress. And if it’s cold out where you are, you can always pair it up just like Sarah Jessica Parker paired her zebra sequin dress with a white blazer.
If you choose to wear sequin, remember not to overdo it. By wearing too much sparkle, you risk looking like a disco ball.

Stand out in sequin

COLOR-BLOCK – Color blocking is in this holiday season. There are many different ways you can color-block, just experiment. I would advise taking baby steps if you have never tried color-blocking. And don’t forget, it looks way better when only one item of clothing is color-blocked. Be it your dress, top, bag, shoes or jewelry. You don’t want people to think you are color blind, so play it safe.

I think I'm gonna go with my LBD and some sparkly accessories.

Happy New Year dolls!!!

Pucker up! - RED Smoochy lips

Being in the holiday spirit with all the green and red colors around, I was inspired to make a post about red lipstick. Plus its winter and some of us tend to look a bit pale because of our lack of summer sun. Red lipstick is a way to brighten your face and look sexy.
How to wear red lipstick
Every female celebrity has probably worn red lipstick at least once. There are some ladies who like to wear red lipstick; others assume they can’t wear it. Well, this is what I have to say to them – They are wrong! I believe that every woman can wear red lipstick if it is the right shade. Red lipstick is sexy, powerful and very attractive. It is a classic that has been with us from as early as the 16th century. I think that is pretty amazing. For me, my all-time favorite lip color is red.

Things to consider when wearing red lipstick:
  • The rest of the face – When wearing red lipstick, I prefer the rest of the face to be more neutral. Go light on the eyes and the blush; this will help you avoid looking like a clown. For the eyes, maybe some light eye shadow, skip eyeliner and just brush both upper and lower eyelashes out with mascara. Or Draw some sexy strokes with an eyeliner and brush out the upper lashes. In both cases, keep the blush shade more nude than pink.
  • Picking the right color – Picking the right color of red lipstick can sometimes be challenging, if you find yourself in this situation just ask the help of the beautiful ladies working in the cosmetic store, and get it sorted out once and for all. Basically, it comes down to the skin tone and hair color when picking the right shade of red. If you are fair skinned with light hair like Blake Lively or Gwen Stefani, coral red would look most beautiful on you by complimenting the tone of your hair. If you are fair skinned with dark hair like Angelina Jolie or Megan fox, coral red or blue based red is your color. If you are medium skinned like Kim Kardashian, anything from true red to pinky-cranberry shades should look awesome. If you are dark skinned like Zoe Saldana or Gabrielle Union, then you would definitely want to try an orange-based red, brick or burgundy.
  • Painting the lips the right way

-  First apply a lip moisturizer
-  Then apply a thin layer of foundation followed by a thin layer of face powder. This will help set your red lipstick and make it last longer.
-  Next, line your lips with a lip pencil that matches your lipstick. Don’t forget to stick within your natural lip line.
-  Apply a thin layer of your red lipstick.
-  Always remember to blot with a tissue.
-  Apply a second coat of red lipstick.
-  Done! Time to rock it...
Red lipstick

I occasionally like to add some gloss after the 2nd coat of red lipstick or run an ice cube along my upper and lower lip. If you choose to add gloss, don’t forget to put just a drop in the middle of your lower lip.

Let me know what you think of red lipstick!

Behind the scenes!

My name is Nia. As we all know, passion lies within us. Of course I am passionate about a number of things, but most of all, I am passionate about fashion and photography. In some cases, one compliments the other and we get fashion photography, in other cases they are separated. But all in all, just like photography, fashion is art.

This blog is a collection of my personal musing about everything, starting from the color and design of nails to the collective image portrayed from an outfit. There will be posts about the everyday style of an everyday girl as well as posts on the glamorous styles of celebrities.

Just like me, my yorkie “Candy” loves fashion too. The excitement she portrays when I open her drawer to get out a clean bow or a dress is unbelievable.

Everyone has their opinion so feel free to leave comments, good or bad; I would love to know what you think. If you need to contact me, you can email me at styleofcolours@gmail.com {updated}.
