Feature Friday: Soff's Blog

One more week has gone by, and I am writing a new Feature Friday post. I am seriously having the time of my life and I am glad I started Feature Friday. It gives me such a great opportunity to get to know you all. It is not just a spotlight post, but really getting information about the people behind blogs.

This week I am featuring the beautiful Sophie of Soffs Blog. She started blogging at the end of May this year, and as I read a new post from her, I can't help but think that with time she will have an amazing collection of posts. She writes about fashion trends, music and various things she finds online. I found her post on Color block quite interesting (I am such a sucker when it comes to bright, interesting colors). I also loved the pretty items in her holiday edition of Going somewhere nice. The Club Tropicana outfits are so cute, they make me want to head to the beach right away. Get to know Sophie by reading what she told me.
Feature Friday: Soffs Blog
Name: Sophie

Blog Name: Soffs Blog

Where we can find you: I'm a tweetaholic, so you can follow me on twitter or bloglovin if you prefer.

What we can find on your blog:
My blog is divided up into different posts - I have 'Music Mondays' every, er, Monday, which are dedicated to new music or just songs/artists that I really like; 'Online Finds' where I scour the internet in search for cute clothes and accessories; 'Boutique of the Week' where I nominate my favourite online boutique of the week and usually post my favourite pieces; then 'Fashion Fridays' where I pick out clothes according to a certain theme, usually inspired by a particular trend or occasion.

Future plans regarding your blog:
My blog is still very new at the moment, so the main focus for me right now is getting publicised and letting people know what it's all about! The dream for me would be to write professionally, so hopefully will still be blogging throughout college and university until I (hopefully) get there! I would love to collaborate with other bloggers and attend some more events, but right now it's all very new and exciting - so I guess I'll see how it goes.

Some Interesting things about you:
1. I'd love to say I've moved from abroad and am currently living in a busy city... but the truth is I live in a sleepy village in the countryside in Somerset! Hardly the glamourous life of a blogger - I do hope to move away and travel in the future though.
2. I'm applying to study English at Oxford. I can't see myself getting accepted at all - but I'll never know if I don't try!
3. The absolute dream for me would be to write for a magazine - becoming the next editor of Elle would do nicely, haha. But no, I get ridiculously excited when I get anything published and at the fact that people read my blog posts - having people read something you've put time and thought into really is rewarding, so I would love to write for a living.
4. I currently have a life-size cardboard cutout of Dumbledore who lives in my bedroom, staring at me. Random, but true.

If you love fashion like Sophie and I, and would like a new blog to check out with updates on trends and online finds, go check out her blog.

{Thank you Sophie, you are such a cutie. It was great getting to know some facts about you and seeing who is really behind Soffs Blog. If you would like to be featured, please click here for more details.}

The Pink Panther

Sorry this isn't an outfit of the day, it is more like an outfit of a couple of weeks ago when it was warm and sunny. Sadly now it has been raining every day. And has been very discouraging to take outfit photos, so I thought I'd post this one instead because I quite like it plus I haven't done an outfit post in forever. It is quite sunny today though, but not as warm as I would like.

These photos were taken when hubby and I went to Jurmala for a walk and to watch the sunset on the beach. It was so amazing. My hair is pretty much messy in the photos, but oh well, we all have our days I guess. And we took my lovely Candy along as always. She was also dressed in pink. She wore a pink vest that said hugs & kisses (though you can't really see it in the picture) and a pink bow. She was just the cutest and got loads of compliments from everyone.

My outfit pretty much looks like a dress, and it may be hard to believe but the top and skirt were gotten from two different parts of the world, and together they made this lovely outfit.

3 things to do the night before an interview

A lot of people are nervous the night before their interview. And even more nervous on their way there. I know it's hard for many people for different reasons. For some, it may be because the language of the company is not their first language, for others it may be because they are worried about what they will be asked and how their response will be evaluated. I believe that there are quite a few things you could do to give a better first impression.
Getting ready for an interview
1. Read about the company - Before going for an interview, it may be a good idea to read about the company. I think this is a good way to show that you are prepared and have studied what the company does. By doing this, you show that you know what you are applying for and getting into. Trust me, you don't want to be lost for words if you are asked a simple question like what does the company offer to it's customers.

2. Prepare your outfit for the big day - I think this is a total must. You wouldn't want to be getting half your wardrobe out the day of the interview trying to put together an outfit. I for one get very nervous when looking through my wardrobe and not being able to find something I like. Especially if I'm beginning to run late because of that. Also, it may of course depend on the type of job you are applying for, but I believe a classy business outfit always gives a better first impression that a mini skirt or jeans and a shirt. If the employees then tell you that casual is fine, then you can dress the way you prefer.

3. Get a good night rest - Studying about the company and getting your outfit ready is very important, but all of that doesn't pay off if you don't get a good night's sleep. Nobody wants to look like Frankenstein at their interview. So make sure you go to bed early, get some rest and then you would wake up with beautiful glowing skin (and no circles around the eyes).

So next time you have an interview, try the following steps. They will help cut dress up time the next morning and give you a confidence boost which should help with the nervousness.

Have you ever been nervous when going for an interview? What do you do when nervous?

Feature Friday: Fashion Pas

I am pleased to announce that the forth blogger being featured on my blog is Rita of Fashion Pas. Rita may be new to the scene but she is putting together some amazing outfits using polyvore. I love her posts on one dress four season like this one. I like the fact that you don't have to own a lot of dresses, you can just put together different items like she did.

Rita is a sweet little pumpkin. As always with my featured bloggers, Rita and I exchanged quite a number of emails, and I must say, she is a dear. I feel like I know her now and like we are friends. It is so amazing. I loved her replies to my questions. Now I definitely know who to ask for an opinion if I'm thinking of taking a vacation. I also adore the 3rd interesting thing she told me about herself, I think it is amazing how the past impacts on the present and future. I have put together a picture of the lovely lady behind Fashion Pas and some of her amazing outfit combinations.
Feature Friday: Fashion Pas
Name: Rita

Blog Name:  Fashion Pas

Where we can find you: Auckland, New Zealand but also on Twitter

What we can find on your blog:
Most of the time, eye candy. Sometimes a polyvore board, others an item I really like, a review here and there but always something I am so excited about, I have to share with others.

Future plans regarding your blog:
I have been putting together outfits on polyvore for a long time. I used to do it when I needed a break because I find it so enjoyable. I then started pinning those outfits and found I wasn't the only one finding them interesting. Having been a blogger on other topics for about 5 years, a blog was the natural progression for me. I have so much fun with my blog that I do wish I could do this as a job. I started it as a way to share beautiful things with others. Then I noticed I could also share my thoughts on products I like. And as it grows more and more into a sharing platform, I find myself more and more dedicated to it and wish I can reach as many people as possible. Once I am done with my current work project, I will seat down and consider where exactly I can take it but, for now I am just sharing :)

Some Interesting things about you:
1. I wouldn't say interesting but I have spent the past four years doing research on the effects of singing on well-being, and that involved getting people to sing and donate saliva (plus the usual psychology questionnaires)...What may be interesting is that I am not a singer myself or a musician by any standards.
2. I am from Portugal, went to University in Lisbon where I lived for 6 years, moved to Vienna after that, Brussels, Brighton and am now in Auckland...My globetrotter career may not be over!
3. As a young girl and teenager I was so interested in fashion, designing clothes, planning outfits, that I used to spend the Summer days at the beach planning and drawing sketches of all the outfits I would wear at school the following Autumn!

If you would like some ideas on putting together an outfit, you should definitely check out Rita's blog.

{Thank you Rita for giving me the opportunity of getting to know you better. It was amazing. If you would like to be featured, please click here for more details.}

Nail Idea: Candyland

As you may have seen from one of my previous posts. I went all out a while ago while at Oniks Beta and bought 4 new Orly nail polish colors. As I sat looking at them, I wondered what type of nail art I would like to do with them. I decided to start off pretty much simple because I didn't have a lot of time. I made polka dotted candy nails. Here is how I did it:

Step 1 -
Paint your nails with a color you would like as your base coat

Step 2 -
Using a dotting tool or some other item that can serve the same purpose, make different sized dots on your nails. (Sorry my dots are kinda messy)

What do you think about my nails? What nail art would you like to see me do with these or other colors?

Feature Friday: Lippy in London

I am really happy to announce our featured blogger. This week I am featuring the amazing Hannah of Lippy in London. Every week I am always excited to get the replies to the questions which I ask the featured bloggers. It is so nice to get to know them better. Hannah runs a beauty and style blog where she tells her readers about different beauty products and other fashion related topics. If you love looking pretty (and we all do) then you should check out her blog. I've been reading her posts for a bit now, I liked her post on Strawberry curls, I think they came out really pretty. She also has a new post on a tanning lotion, which I also thought was cool.

I love the way Hannah looks in the very 1st picture, I think red lips look amazing on her. And her leggings in the 3rd picture are lovely and very interesting. Kind of some galaxy design or something. Well, I asked Hannah some questions and here is what she told me.

                                                         Email: lippyinlondon@gmailcom

What we can find on your blog:
A mixture of beauty reviews, news and brand raves as well as outfit posts and features on quirky fashion finds. I love vintage fashion & beauty, so you'll find a few posts about pin up style etc. There will be the odd lifestyle piece here and there in the future too.

What inspired you to start blogging:
I worked as a features writer for a magazine back home in Australia and I started to miss writing professionally last year, so Lippy in London became a sort of creative outlet. I have a little sister who started asking me to do her make up for her, then my friends started quizzing me for makeup tips and skincare advice, so I figured I'd start sharing with people around the world too :). Compiling the beauty pages and fashion spreads for the mag in Australia was one of my favourite aspects of the job and now it's like I can recreate these whenever I like. love having a blog because it means I can write what I want, when I want. I have a sort of policy that means I don't write negative reviews about products or brands. If I don't like a product, I just won't feature it.

Some interesting things about you:
1. I moved to London from the Gold Coast, Australia in February 2010.
2. I've never eaten red meat, even as a child!
3. I was short listed for the MTV makeover show 'Plain Jane' last year. Kind of embarrassing but true!
4. I really, really like bright red lipstick and unique leggings!

If you like to look pretty and want to know what to look out for during your next trip to a beauty store, follow Hannah.

Mini Orly/Sparitual Haul

This weekend I was out at our mall Riga Plaza and couldn't resist going in to Oniks Beta (again!). Well, as always once I got in, there was no going back. I needed to buy some new nail polish. Thing is, when I go into this store, I have no idea what color exactly I want because there are so many different lovely colors I would like. So as always I ended up buying not 1 but 4 new bottles of nail polish. They are all lovely shades which I will be wearing all summer.

In general I like Orly, I usually put about 2 coats of it and it lasts quite a while if I don't do dishes and stuff like that. Anyway, here are the lovely colors I bought. Nail design using some or all of this nail polishes will be up later this week.

Longest Fashion Show in Baltic States

Last Friday, 8Th of June, there was an amazing event - Longest Fashion Show in Baltic States which was held on K. Barona street in Riga, Latvia. If you follow me on twitter then you probably know how excited I was before the show and how happy I was after. The event started at the crossroad where MerÄ·ela meets K.Barona and went all the way till United Colors of Benetton.

The fashion show was a total of 1.5 km. Don't freak out, I know your thoughts at the moment - "OMG, those poor models". The red carpet was obviously not all 1.5km, because that would obviously have disturbed everyone else from going where they ought to. They had red carpets placed every 300m approximately and two groups of models who had to switch from one red carpet to the next. I'll say this much, they sure did have a crazy walk in those heels back and forth. Therefore, I would like to say thumbs up to the ladies for not falling through.

There were so many lovely models in bright outfits of different styles. They had their hair and makeup done as well and they all looked absolutely stunning.
I am so glad to have attended this event. If you missed the show and the lovely outfits, here are some pictures.

Longest Fashion Show in Baltic States

I like the beige/brown on black looks, and those of you who saw my post on Bee-you-tiful would know I like the yellow on black look a lot. She looks a lot like a boss lady in the picture below.

Models from the Barona fashion show

I like this look as well. I think it is a comfortable look which is a bit sporty because of the white/orange/hot pink striped top and white shorts with the leather jacket, but then the white heels and the clutch give it a bit more of a feminine look. And her cat eye sun glasses are amazing. Aren't they?

Longest fashion show in the baltics

The lady in a yellow top and jeans represents a total causal comfy every day look, will definitely be looking like that on some days this summer. The lady beside her is a good example of how to make a monotone outfit more interesting by adding just one more piece. In this case the colorful strip cardigan.

K. Barona fashion Show

Now her I would call the glam queen. I like that a simple red maxi skirt was made into a very party look by adding a sparkly black jacket.

Vip fashion style model at barona street fashion show

I like the red maxi and jean jacket. Although the red turban is not really my thing, I would totally rock an outfit like that. Oh and miss sunshine, she looks so bright and amazing and she was always smiling. I think the colorful headband on the hippy-like lady is very interesting.

I hope you all liked the pictures, and they gave you an insight of the lovely event.

Feature Friday: Dress Up Mutzii

I am so glad to be featuring another amazing blogger. The week's blogger is Mutzii of Dress Up Mutzii. Mutzii is a super cute (don't take this the wrong way sweety) Philippine lady who is in transition of becoming a style geek. She has a lovely blog where she posts on many different fashion related themes. One of the posts which I found really interesting was 20 Things We Should Have Known at 20. Mutzii and I sent a few emails back and forth and she is such a doll. I had an amazing time talking to her. Also, This Sunday, 10th of June is Mutzii's birthday so let's all not forget to stop by and wish her an awesome fashionista birthday and hope she has a lot of fun and loads to tell us by Monday.
Name: Mutzii

Blog name: Dress Up Mutzii

Where can we find you: In the capital region of the Philippines, Manila. For friends/ co-bloggers living across the sea, you can reach me via -

                                                         Email: mutchikita@zoho.com

What we can find on your blog:
My 3 month old (almost 4) fashion blog is my virtual closet and diary. It chronicles the clothes, shoes and fashion-related stuff that I purchased and used. It tells you a story of an ordinary girl trying to survive her everyday struggles, which everyone can relate to. It also contains useful fashion, lifestyle and beauty tips which I got from reading a lot online. It's where I put my wishlist - and even build my own dreams.

Future plans regarding your blog:
I'm looking forward to buy my own domain. But I'm just hesitant because as an SEO expert, I know, it would affect my global and regional ranking online. I would also like to redesign and restructure it, if I've got the time and if there are people/friends available who are willing to do this for me.

Some interesting things about you:
1. I hate the fact that I wasn't born tall and talented. My voice sounds like a tweeting bird, I dance like I've sprained my foot and I'm just so shy, so I know even if I have what it takes to ACT, I can't because it needs a bunch of GUTS to be and actress, right?
2. I'm small - 5feet 2 inches.
3. I'm cute like a cute KID, which is really not a good thing because whenever I want to wear something corporate, I end up trying hard to look older than I do. There was an instance that I was even asked to present an ID in a convenience store when I bought an alcoholic beverage, just to prove that I'm legal to drink beer already.

Looking for a new blog to read, go check out Mutzii, and don't forget to say hi.

{Thanks you so much Mutzii, you are a doll. If you would like to be featured, please click here for more details.}

Wishlist for June

Wishlist for june ft OmgFashion, SoYouShoes, Glamorous and Funkydivaa
Firstly, I would like to say a big YAY! that it is finally summer. Still a bit cold here but, I've got my fingers crossed and can't wait for July because its tanning season here in Latvia. Those who have been in Latvia or heard something about it would probably know that we have a beach city called Jurmala. And during the summer its always full of lovely people sun bathing. I'm so excited! I can't wait.

And because I am hoping that summer will be extra warm and not so rainy, I have put together a few items from some amazing stores which I would like to have this month. They are all light, comfy and perfect for sunny days.

1. Floral wedge heel sandals - These look great with quite a number of pieces- shorts, a skirt, a dress. Add a straw bag and you are all set for a tanning session.

2. Nude chiffon max skirt - Lovely chiffon maxi skirt similar to the one in my last post. This skirt is absolutely amazing and I can't wait to get it in nude and maybe even turquoise and coral.

3. Ruffle flip flop sandals - I think these are an essential part of any girl's wardrobe. They go great with jean shorts and a basic shirt. I like to wear them on days when I'm not in a heel wearing mood.

4. Chiffon polka dot bow top in coral - This is a light blouse which I think would look great with a chiffon skirt for a chic look or with shorts for a more simple walk in the park look.

5. Charlotte floral shorts - I have been on a search mission for floral shorts and pants for a while because I just couldn't find the ones I liked. These ones are great because you can wear them with tons of different colors.

6. Bright high stiletto heel shoes - Like a lot of girls, I am a big fan of stilettos. Bright or pastel. I wanted a yellow pair for summer, but now I found a pastel green pair in my size which I also like. Decisions, decision. *sigh*

7. Waterfall bright blue skirt - I don't currently have any of these but would really love to get one or two because I think they look great. I've seen them paired with different pieces and can't wait to try pairing one myself.

8. Cross print vest top - This is just a simple top I would like to wear with light jeans or shorts for a calm afternoon walk with my precious little dog Candy.

9. Strap back floral zip front bra top in red - Crop tops and bralets are everywhere this season. And if you are thinking you don't need one of these because you are at the office every day, well think again. Why not let out the inner you on the weekend by pairing this with a mini skirt, a maxi skirt, shorts and so many other options.

10. Pointed spike toe stiletto shoes - Spikes and studs are on all types of clothing now. Shoes, shorts, jackets etc. I've seen quite a number of pairs of shoes I would like with spikes/studs and these are one of them.

11. Coil spring jersey maxi dress - A late evening walk on the beach with hubby watching the sunset would be even more perfect in this lovely green dress. This dress is great for lazy but stylish afternoons/evening. Try it on with a pair of flip flops.

If you like this wishlist and would like any of these items, visit:
Items 1,3,6 and 10 are from SoYouShoes
Items 2 and 11 are from OmgFashion
Items 4,8 and 9 are from Funkydivaa
Items 5 and 7 are from Glamorous

Which item is your favorite on this list? What items are you loving at the moment?

The grass is much greener on the other side

A while ago, I came across an online store called  Omg Fashion . They have a lot of amazing things at a reasonable price range and I couldn't help but pick out a few things. Ever since I made my order at Omg Fashion, I couldn't wait to receive it (I'm always super excited to get something in the mail). If you are following me on twitter then you probably already know that I got my parcel this Friday. I was so excited to do a haul post, but due to having exams all through the weekend, I couldn't. I woke up today feeling really bright and sunny, and the weather also added to my mood. So I decided to do an outfit post instead because it's been a while I did one.

Anyway, being a more or less lazy day with some stops around town and stuff to do at home, I decided to wear my black maxi skirt. For as long as I can remember I always thought of myself as the short skirt kind of girl. Well, I was wrong, because once I wore this skirt I knew it was love. It has a shorter underskirt and a chiffon maxi on top of it. It's so comfy, lovely and perfect for summer. Absolutely cannot wait to get it in nude/peach and maybe blue.

Feature Friday: Dearest Lou

This week, our lovely fashion blogger is Cecilia of Dearest Lou. I have been following her blog for a while now and I think she has amazing style. Plus, I am always surprised at the items she thrifts, they are so cute. She recently posted about an amazing pair of red shorts which she thrifted for $2.50 and a mint stripped shirt for $1.50. Can you actually imagine that? I think she should actually make online courses that teach you how to thrift such items because I for one would attend. Who doesn't want to know how to save some part of their salary?

Anyway, back to our lovely Cecilia. She is so friendly and sweet and is currently co-hosting a fun event called Christmas in July which is basically an international gift swap event which you should check out.

What your blog is mostly about:
Dearest Lou is a place where I can share my personal style, update on married life, and share my thrifty way of living. I'm a lover of all things vintage and my style is very eccentric and modest. I strongly believe that one doesn't need to spend a lot of money in order to be fashionable.

Some Interesting things about you:
1. I'm a voracious thrifter and I usually won't buy a clothing item over $7
2. I graduated with my 4 year degree at the age of 20, less than 2 years after I received my high school diploma.
3. I met my husband when I was 18 got engaged exactly 1 year later and married 3 months after that.

If you like to be fashionable on a budget, you definitely have to follow her blog.
