Review: Mane 'n Tail Deep Moisturizing Shampoo & Conditioner

Hello beauties. I hope you are all having a great week. I haven't posted in a while because I am spending evenings and most of the weekends working on my thesis, but I hope you stick around and support me while I get this done. Now that's out of the way, time to get to the review.

I got this shampoo and conditioner over 3 months ago when I decided to start off my journey of growing out my hair an extra 15-20cm. I know that's going to take a while as my hair takes it's time when growing but I am going to do my best and see how long I can get it.

I heard about horse shampoo being used when trying to grow human hair and was suggested the Mane 'n Tail range by my friend Katie, so I did a bit of research and a lot of people seemed to be impressed with it so I thought I would try it. These products can be used both on horses and on human hair, so it is totally safe. I chose the Deep Moisturizing products because my hair is super dry {apparently my skin just seems to think my face needs more oil and my hair less}. I got the 355 ml bottles for about 14 including shipping and they have lasted quite a while.

Mane n Tail Deep Moisturizing Shampoo & Conditioner

So packaging wise, it looks more like horse shampoo that human shampoo and the picture of horses running just makes everyone who sees it ask questions. So if you are planning to get this shampoo or conditioner be prepared that whoever you live with or have over will probably ask you why you have horse shampoo if you don't have a pet.

Mane n Tail Deep Moisturizing Shampoo
Mane n Tail Deep Moisturizing Condition

Product wise it is blue and smells pretty nice. When I first ordered it I kept thinking it is going to stink and wondering how I am going to go to out the house, but to my relief it doesn't.

I use this product once a week or every other week because from what I noticed it cleans your scalp and hair thoroughly and I think it strips it of some of the oil. So since I have dry hair, I really do not want to do that. The shampoo didn't lather much for me which meant I had to use more shampoo and just after using the shampoo, the hair feels quite dry. But once you apply the conditioner is feels amazing.

Growth wise, I cannot say that it has actually helped my hair grow faster or anything like that. But then again, I did abandon my hair growth routine for a bit while I was on vacation so I am going to try these products once again when I get back on my growth journey. But I know for sure I like the conditioner much more than the shampoo so might continue getting it even if I stop getting the shampoo because I noticed it made my hair softer and shinier.

Overall Summary
Price - Depends on your location. To Latvia approx 14 including shipping.
Likes - Used together the conditioner adds back moisture which the shampoo takes away
Dislikes - Shampoo makes hair very dry
Verdict - 1 more proper try, repurchasing conditioner
Available - Ebay, Amazon, Sally Beauty etc

What's in my bag?

Hello beauties and welcome back to my blog. I hope you are all having a great week so far. This weekend I finally put up my first video on my new channel. It was sad to part with my old channel as I already had a few subscribers on there, but I thought it would just be a big confusion if I kept it after the blog name change. So it would be great if you subscribed to Style of Colours.

I recently got a new camcorder and I am still trying to get the hang of it with the quality and white balance so hopefully with time my videos will get better. I am also trying to get the hang of editing videos, which is a lot different than editing pictures.

Anyway, I have never done a "what's in my bag?" video and I always preferred watching these type of posts on youtube to reading them so I thought it would be a great start.

If you like the video please give it a thumbs up and if you would like to see more of my videos, please subscribe.

If you have any tips about lighting, filming or editing videos {well basically anything that has to do with making a youtube video} please let me know.

Review: Mavala Eye-Lite Double Lash

Hi beauties. I hope you are all having a lovely day. It is not sunny, quite cold and foggy here in Latvia, so if you are somewhere sunny, please send us some of that warm energy. I have been contemplating doing this review or not as I do not have before and after photos. But as you can see, I decided to do it and tell you what I think of the product anyway.

A really long time ago, I tried the Beyu Lash Energizer and when I ran out, I wanted to get it once again but it wasn't available so the sales representative suggested I try the Mavala Eye-Lite Double Lash.

Mavala Eye-Lite Double Lash

Growing your lashes with Mavala, Mavala Double lash wand

Size wise, I think the Mavala Eye-Lite Double Lash is much better than similar products which come in a mascara tube, but personally, I did not like that it is a glass bottle. When getting ready in the mornings, I am sometimes in a rush and tend to have things falling from my hands. I have broken quite a few products in plastic packaging that way so imagine what is possible with a glass bottle. But anyway, I have been lucky enough not to break this one {touch wood}.

One thing you definitely cannot escape is the product becoming an icky grey colour as you use it. Because even when you take all your makeup off, sometimes there is still a tiny coat of mascara on your lashes which gets on the wand of the product and then into the bottle. This happens with this type of product irrespective of the brand. Just in this case it is a bit more visible due to the glass bottle.

Technically, this product is supposed to make your lashes longer, denser and stronger. Unfortunately, I cannot say that it really did that for me. One thing I do know it did is tame my eyelashes but I am guessing there is a cheaper alternative for that {If you know any, please let me know}.

I apply this every morning before applying my mascara and to me this has become a vital step in my mascara routine. It seems to give the lashes direction {if that makes sense} as mine sometimes seem to go a bit crazy. And I think it gives them a bit of volume or something because they look so much nicer and my mascara applies so much better.

Overall Summary
Price - £10.80, £11.90.
Likes - It tames the lashes.
Dislikes - Didn't make my lashes grow.
Verdict - Not repurchasing.
Available - Feelunique, BeautyBay

Have you tried this product? What did you think?

Review: The Body Shop Coconut Body Scrub

Hello beauties. I hope you are all doing well and having a great Saturday. I am really glad it's the weekend {but that's nothing new}. Now, I know I have mentioned quite a few times that I have oily skin on my face, my body skin type on the other hand is normal and as the weather is getting colder, the skin begins to look dry and needs some love. I always use a lot of cream and scrubs in the Autumn and Winter time and was very excited to receive this Body Shop Coconut Scrub*.

I love The Body Shop. Even if I don't shop there so often, they always seem to get me in there for my birthday and for Christmas. I already knew I would love this product because well, what can possibly be bad in Coconut?! I use coconut oil for a lot of things and was excited to see how my skin will feel after using this body scrub.

The Body Shop Coconut Body Scrub Review

We all know what body shop packaging looks like, so I am not going to comment on that. The only thing I can say is that the coconut on it looked very tasty and made me think of the beach in Nigeria where you could get a freshly cut coconut, drink out the coconut water and then have it cut up for you to eat. That is one of the things I miss here in Latvia.

It doesn't smell exactly like my coconut oil as it has other ingredients like Sweet Almond oil, Soybean oil and others. But it still smells so amazingly nice. The consistency of the product is quite thick, easy to take out of the can and apply on your body.

I apply it by rubbing in a circular motion and then washing it off. After which the skin feels very moisturized and soft. I used it for 3 weeks and can honestly say I didn't find anything I didn't like. Even though it says it's not for facial use I was so tempted I used it on my face and it didn't cause any irritation or break me out which makes me so happy.

While writing this post, I was also able to find this page where you can get discount codes for:
- £30 off when you spend £60
- 30% off + free standard delivery {I wish I lived in UK}
- Buy 2 get 2 free.

Overall Summary
Price - £12.50.
Likes - Soft and moisturized body
Dislikes - None yet
Verdict - Repurchasing this or getting the Chocomania Body Scrub
Available -  Body Shop

Have you tried this product? What do you think? What is your favourite Body Shop scrub?

Starting off: {Mascara}

Hello my beauties. Today is another post from the Starting off series with the makeup product being Mascara. I am guessing this is one of those products you start off using alongside maybe foundation and lipgloss.
Starting off with Mascara
Now I always get compliments on my natural bare eyelashes because they are black, kind of thick and curly.

When I was just a little kid going to kinder garden in Moscow, my teacher once asked my mum how come my lashes are so curly and if she curls them for me. My mum being the hilarious woman she is replied by saying yes, she curls them all night so they can be that way in the morning. I remembered laughing so hard it hurt when she told me that story. I actually still laugh every time I remember it. {Love you mum!}

Anyway, my lashes are great but I like using mascara to make them look even thicker and longer as I love the way it looks. I started off with trying out my mum's mascaras. There was this one she had which I loved. It had a white base coat and them a black coat of mascara which made my lashes look extra thick and long {too bad I don't remember the brand}. But here are those which I do remember trying:

L'oreal Telescopic Mascara
The old version of this product has been discontinued but the good new is there is a new one. I love the wand and that it makes your lashes look longer. This is one of my favourites which I keep repurchasing. Once I get a new one I'll do a review with pictures of the effect it gives.

DiorShow Waterproof Mascara
I got to try this product out when I got it as a gift. It is absolutely amazing! It is probably my all time favourite mascara which I didn't repurchase only because of the price. Every time I see it, I am tempted to buy it. I gives both thickness and length and is clump free.
Diorshow Waterproof Mascara

Maybelline Rocket Volum Express Mascara
This is my current favourite mascara which I have repurchased because I love it so much. You can read about all the details in my review here. In summary, it gives both length and lots of volume. And you can apply multiple coats without it getting clumpy.
Maybelline Rocket Volum Express Mascara

Rimmel London Glam Eyes Mascara
Now this is one product I thought I would like a lot because of the wand, but unfortunately it really didn't work for me. It dried up really fast and I didn't get the effect I wanted after 3 coats. So I gave up on it after a couple of tries.
Rimmel Glam Eyes MAscara
source
There are so many out there, you cannot possibly try them all. It all depends on what you prefer.  I have a friend who only likes the traditional wand and cannot use any mascara with a plastic wand. Somehow for me, I seem to get plastic wands to work better.

Application:
When applying my mascara, I use about 3 coats. Start at the bottom and then wiggle the brush upwards. If you want extra volume, put the wand behind your lashes and then roll it out.  And that's it! It is pretty straight forward.

Let me know your favourite mascara.

Save a penny, shop on Ebay #1

Hello everybody, I hope you are all doing very well and Monday isn't a crappy day as it sometimes is. Today I thought I would start a series called "Save a penny, shop on ebay" because if you have been reading my blog for a while, you would know I love to save some money wherever I can. And sometimes, the highstreet shops aren't the best places to do that. Don't get me wrong, I love buying things on Asos, Topshop, Dorothy Perkins and many others, but not all the time and not everything.

Yes we all love to splurge on certain things. It could be makeup, skincare, bags, shoes and what not. But somehow I feel that there are just certain things that should be cheaper than they actually are. Here are some of the items I have found for a great price.

Daisy Jumper
I know quite a few people have seen this jumper in some stores and I personally fell in love with it the moment I saw it. But at the time, I was trying to restrain myself from buying anything as I spent a fortune on fixing my car. Then I saw an instagram picture from LydiaRose and decided I have to have it. As I wasn't prepared to spend £15 + shipping on it, I thought I would look for it on ebay.  And here I found it for $13 and free shipping which is less than half the price I have seen for it.

Chunky Chain Link Necklace
Here, I would have to admit that I do not own any type of chunky chain necklace. Imagine that?! And before you call me the worst blogger ever, I have an excuse. I make jewelry in my free time and really wanted to make myself one instead of buying it but just could not find a big enough chain here in Latvia. I looked it up in some stores here and the price was unreal, so I found one here on ebay.

Statement Necklaces
Statement necklaces are a big thing right now. I love seeing how they make someone's outfit so much nicer. Again, I looked at some here in stores and just could not bring myself to purchase them so I found this amazing ebay store where you can get them for about $6. The one in the picture is one of those I really liked but there are tons of other designs. I already have 3 in mind that I want.

Tartan scarf
Now, you may have noticed from the items in stores that tartan {or check as some people call it} is one of the trends for AW13. I personally am not really sure how I would pull off a tartan dress but a great place to start would be a scarf. I think it is much easier as it is harder to go wrong with it if you pair it with black and white. Red is always such a beautiful color to add to neutrals. So here you will find a scarf for $7.06

Festive Jumper
Let me just first say that I do not like the cold one bit! Yes, I get to wear cute jumpers and gorgeous boots but Latvia is just way too cold for me. But anyway, when I saw this jumper I really liked it. The pattern on it makes me think of the festive season and that is the only bit of Autumn and Winter that I like. I also really like the round neck of the sweater as I think it would be great with both a scarf and a collared shirt.

Those are all the things I found in this search, and I am personally tempted to get all of them {I just might}. Let me know what you think about these types of posts, and if you have specific items you want me to show in the next one.

Enjoy your day beauties!
