Review: Catrice Prime and Fine Anti-Red Base

Hello beauties. I hope you all had a good week? I bet you're all excited it's Friday so we get to hang out with friends, sleep in and do some at home pampering. Today, I have another product review for you. This one being the Catrice Prime and Fine Anti-Red Base which is actually sort of a correcting primer. I've tried out the product and i'm sort of neutral about it. Usually the idea is that applying a green product on red areas on your face will reduce the redness. This products can be green concealer, green primer or even a bit of matte green eyeshadow. I've tried this technique with each of the products I just mentioned and it does work {in some cases better than others}.

Catrice Prime and Fine Anti-Red Base
Catrice Anti-Red Base
Catrice Colour Correcting Green Primer
Catrice Prime and Fine Anti-Red Base Primer Swatch

The Catrice Anti-Red Base primer is a green cream which comes in a tube with a screw off cap. I like the packaging as it doesn't look cheap and I found it easy to use. The back of the product says "Soft green primer neutralizes redness and gives a long lasting even skin tone. Minimizes optically fine lines and pores. Use alone or under makeup." What is not said on the product and you'll never know this unless you swatch the product is that the green primer contains shimmer and glitter. I bought this product without swatching it as there were no testers, and was very surprised after I blended it on the back of my hand.

I use this product as a primer which means I use it after my moisturizer for before applying any makeup. Just apply a bit on your finger, dot it around your face and then blend it all together. I personally found that if I used too much it became hard to blend and would leave my face looking sort of pale and greenish, so I just use a bit. I do think it tones down the redness a bit but I don't like using it with my mineral powder foundation or just on it's own.

So overall I think it's ok to use when applying liquid foundation or bb creams, but I can't say it's a holygrail product for me.

Overall Summary
Price - approx. 4.50.
Likes - slightly tones down redness.
Dislikes - may leave you looking green.
Verdict - Not repurchasing.
Available - Drugstore.

Flowing on the waves of life

Shirt: Primark   |   Skirt: Ebay   |   Jacket*: WalG   |   Boots: Unknown   |   Rings: Vanilla Shimmer

Hello beauties, last weekend we decided to take a walk and I thought what better time than to take some outfit photos. I decided to style my black Wal-G Water-Falling For You Jacket with my mint dip hem skirt and a pair of boots because it felt like the perfect weather for it. During the day, it's not very cold and I could easy wear shorts without tights, but I do feel the need to put some sleeves on.

Black is a great colour for any season, but I tend to wear it a lot more in Autumn/ Winter because I'd rather go bright or pastel during the Summer. So with the weather gradually becoming colder, I though it's time to start adding some Autumn pieces to my outfits.

The black waterfall jacket has got a zig zag design sort of embedded on it giving it a beautiful texture. The blazer is very comfy. It doesn't have any buttons or other fastenings so whatever you choose to use is up to you. You can use a brooch to pin it in the middle or at one of the corners, but I decided to just let it flow. The only thing I didn't like about the blazer was the way one of the shoulders was sewn {it had a bit sticking out, but that wasn't noticeable once I put it on}.

To add some print to my outfit I went for my Paris top from Primark. The blazer is a great addition to my wardrobe because I'd be able to wear it for work and also casually, which I personally always count as a win.

How would you style this waterfall blazer?

Review: Tangle Teezer Original

Hola guapas? I hope you are all having a great Monday. Once again, I'm talking about hair here on the blog. In December 2013, I started my hair growth journey trying to grow out my hair to waist length. You can follow my hair growth journey through these posts & videos: Start length check, 3 months update, 7 months update. And I have another update coming up at the end of this month, so be sure to stop by.

I've never owned a tangle teezer, I have no idea why. I've just always used wide tooth combs for my hair. Recently, I received the Tangle Teezer Original - Panther Black* from Hairtrade. I've been using it for about a week and I can already tell we're going to be the best of friends.

The Original Tangle Teezer
Tangle Teezer for African Hair
Tangle Teezer Hair Brush
Hairtrade The Original Detangling Brush, Tangle Teezer
Tangle Teezer Bristles for detangling curly hair

The tangle teezer is a flat brush without a handle. The brush is ergonomically designed and fits very well in my palm. The bristles vary in height and are very soft making it easy to comb hair wet or dry. I try not to comb my hair dry as I feel my hair is more likely to break in this state. I always wet my hair slightly, apply leave in conditioner then comb my hair starting from the ends and working my way up. Then I apply some hair oil to lock in the moisture and comb once more.

I've been using the tangle teezer instead of my usual comb and I am very impressed. African hair tends to get very tangled  and combing it every morning can be quite a hassle, so I love the tangle teezer. The tangle teezer detangles my hair and pulls out a lot less hair that when using a comb. Because it detangles the hair, this reduces the likeliness of hair breakage which for me means I get to retain my length. This is one of the problems I've been facing while growing out my hair. You feel as if your hair is not growing due to the ends breaking off, hence making the length remain the same or even shorter.

I'm going to be using only this tangle teezer from now on and hopefully it will help in hair length retention, and help me get closer to my hair growth journey goal. Overall, if your hair easily gets tangled, I would highly recommend you get one of these.

Overall Summary
Price -  £8.55.
Likes - Detangles hair and reduces breakage.
Dislikes - None
Verdict - Love it!
Available - Hairtrade.

Review: Cutagen Gentlecare Clarifying Moisturizer & Refreshing Wash Gel

Hello beauties, I hope you're all having a fab week. I'm always looking to try new skincare products as I'm still trying to find the ones that fit my skin best and help control my acne and oily skin. So when I got the opportunity to try some products from Cutagen, I was obviously all for it. The best products for my skin type were suggested to be Cutagen Gentlecare Refreshing Wash Gel* and Cutagen Gentlecare Clarifying Moisturizer*.

I have been using these products for over 6 weeks so I feel comfortable telling you about my experience with it. I received the 30ml tubes of each of the products and they have lasted quite a while.

Cutagen Gentlecare Clarifying Moisturizer & Cutagen Gentlecare Refreshing Wash Gel

Cutagen Gentlecare Refreshing Wash Gel

The gel is a slightly yellow colour and made specifically for Normal, Combination, Oily and Sensitive Skin which means it is great for all skin types. It contains pro-vitamin B5, extracts of cucumber and camomile which have a calming effect on the skin, Vitamin E which improves the smoothness of the skin, Rosemary Oil which has antiseptic and disinfectant properties, Vitamin A and others. Because the gel is perfume free and colour free, it has a fresh smell to it with a hint of the different extracts but is nothing too strong, so for me this is not a problem. The Cutagen Refreshing Wash Gel is available in a 200ml bottle and costs £7.99.

Cutagen Refreshing Gel Wash for Normal, Combination, Oily or Sensitive skin
Cutagen Gentlecare Refreshing Gel for Oily acne prone skin

Cutagen Gentlecare Clarifying Moisturizer

The Clarifying Moisturizer is a white lotion made for Combination, Oily, Blemished and Acneic Skin. It contains Rosemary Oil which has antiseptic and anti-microbial properties, Cucumber, Camomile and Borage extracts which calm and moisturize the skin, as well as other ingredients. These ingredients help clear the skin from blemishes while at the same time hydrating and replenishing the skin. On very hot days, I would feel the formula of the lotion as if heavy or greasy on my face and I didn't really like this, but that feeling goes away once it dries. The Cutagen Clarifying Moisturizer is available in a 75ml bottle and costs £5.49.

Cutagen Clarifying Moisturizer for Acne prone skin

I started off using these products once a day and then when I saw I didn't have any negative reaction to it, I decided to try it out in my morning and evening routine. You only need very little of each product for it to be enough for your face. I know this is very cliche but a little really does go a very long way so even with constantly using the product, it has lasted me to properly test it out. While testing out these products, I noticed that my acne was under control. I would get a breakout or two but they were just regular zits rather than acne, which is a big step.

I know acne is not only about what you put on your skin but also what your diet is like, and I tend to keep my diet balanced as much as I can without going crazy on chocolate, fried food, alcohol and the rest. If you read my last skincare post on Help: Clear Skin, you'd know it didn't work for me and caused me to breakout {I'd suggest reading the full review}, so I've been sticking to my routine with the Cutagen products and it seems to be slowly helping get my skin back to the way it was. Considering that the products work for my skin and are not very expensive, I'd suggest giving these products a try if you have acne prone skin.

Overall Summary
Price -  Gel: £7.99 and Moisturizer £5.49.
Likes - helps control acne.
Dislikes - moisturizer feels greasy at first.
Verdict - Not my holygrail so looking to try new products.
Available - Cutagen.

Tartan School Girl

Styling a tartan pinafore for early Autumn
Dress*: Wearall   |   Shirt: Unknown   |   Flats:   Primark   |   Bag: Primark   |   Hat: Colloseum
How to style a tartan pinafore
The tartan trend is still big, School girl outfit, how to style tartan dungarees

I hope you are all having a fab week. Mine has been pretty good. I got to update my shop Vanilla Shimmer with a few new pieces and met up with my friend for lunch today. And now it's time for another OOTD post. Last weekend we went to hang out with a friend and I took the opportunity to wear my new tartan dungaree dress from Wearall. Wearall has got some lovely bits in store with a lot of items available in larger sizes so be sure to check them out.

Tartan is a great trend which is still in this year. Mostly for the Autumn and Winter months but I think it's also great for early Autumn like it currently is in Barcelona. Last Saturday was sunny but not very warm, and I wanted to style my pinafore as a school girl outfit so I went for a white button down shirt, white flats and a black hat. Wearing this pinafore dress reminded me of middle school when we had a pinafore uniform and the hat made me think of the days when I used to dance, so I busted some moves.

The pinafore dress is great because it can be worn both during the warm and cold seasons. For warm seasons you can style if with a crop top or sleeveless blouse. And for the cold weather, I'd pick a black sweater, black tights and boots.

I really like this pinafore and cannot wait to wear it when it gets colder. Let me know how you'd style it as I'd love some ideas.

What do you think of my outfit?

DIY Beauty Brush Holder

Hola guapas. Today I'm sharing a DIY post on how to make a budget beauty brush holder which is inexpensive yet very pretty. You'll just need to buy some wrapping paper which will cost about 1-2, the other things you need you'll be able to find at home. Wash and keep the can when you buy tomato paste for cooking. Making the beauty brush holder will take about 5 - 10 minutes excluding drying time. The drying time will depend on the type of glue you are using.

DIY Beauty Brush Holder, Make your own beauty brush holder

For my own DIY beauty brush holder, I picked up some owl print aqua wrapping paper because I think it is a gorgeous colour and print. Plus I'm going for a pastel sort of look for my office/ beauty room. You can pick any printed wrapping paper you like or even a solid colour one, depending on what you find.

Watch my video in order to see how to make the beauty brush holder or follow the steps below if you prefer. If you like the video, give it a thumbs up & subscribe to my channel.

Here is what you will need:

- Wrapping paper
- A metal can {this can be gotten from tomato paste}
- A ruler
- Glue
- Scotch/ Cellotape/ Papertape
- Scissors
- A pencil
- A brush

Follow these steps:

Step 1

Measure the length of the can you are using. Add about 5cms at the top and 5cm at the bottom. And that is the length of wrapping paper you will need.

Step 2

Place the ruler on the table. Find the line on the can and place this line at the starting mark 0 of the ruler. Slowly roll the can along the ruler until you get to the line again. This will help measure the width of the wrapping paper you need. If you are unsure of the results you get, do it again or add about 5cms. More is better in this case.

Step 3

Measure the required length of the wrapping paper, mark that length both at the left and right. Measure the width of the wrapping paper and mark the width at the top and bottom. Join the marks to create a rectangle.

Step 4

Cut out the figure along the lines drawn. Try to cut as straight as possible.

Step 5

Warp the can in the rectangle of wrapping paper you have cut out just to make sure you have enough to cover the entire can. If it isn't enough, add a few cms and then cut out another rectangle from the wrapping paper.

Step 6

Cut off a bit of scotch. Put the wrapping paper around the can. Make sure the can is straight and you have about 5-6cm of wrapping paper at the bottom. Secure the wrapping paper on the can using the scotch.

Step 7

At the other edge of the wrapping paper, apply some glue and spread it evenly with a brush. Then roll the can so the edges of the wrapping paper meet. Try to make it as smooth as possible.

Step 8

You will now have a tube. Turn the tube around so you are looking at the bottom of the can. Cut vertical 1 inch strips of the wrapping paper making sure you cut all the way to the can.

Step 9

Apply some glue to the bottom of the can and fold in 1 strip. Apply some glue on the inside of each strip and spread it with the brush. Fold in the 1 inch strips 1 after another. I prefer to go clockwise.

Step 10

Turn the can around and cut vertical 1 inch strips. Apply some glue on the inside of each strip and spread it with a brush. Carefully fold the strips inwards.

Step 11

Let your DIY dry and then put in your makeup brushes, mascara, eyeliner pens, lips pencils etc or you can put in your stationary.

Doesn't that sound very easy? And the results are great! I am so happy with my DIY beauty brush holder. I currently have 2 and need a few more so I'm going to go with some other colours of wrapping paper but keep the pastel theme.

What do you think of this DIY beauty brush holder? Will you try making it?

Review: Help: Clear Skin

Hola guapas! You might already know by now, my skin isn't perfect. Actually, my skin is far from perfect. I've had acne for years and am constantly battling with it. So I'm always on the lookout for anything to improve my skin. When I was contacted regarding Help: Clear Skin* from Work With Water, I was excited to try it out and see what the results would be. I have never tried any such supplements and couldn't even imagined how they worked. I received 2 of the 14 sachet packs which makes it just enough for 4 weeks. Usually results should be seen after 4 - 6 weeks of taking the product.

Help: Clear Skin
Natural Supplements to control acne
Help: Clear Skin from Works With Water Review

The ingredients of the product include: Oligofructose which helps the body eliminate toxins that negatively affect the skin, Lactoferrin which possesses anti-inflamatory properties, High extract Aloe Vera which is great for healing and smoothing the skin and Zinc gluconate.

Help: Clear Skin is a powder substance which comes in a sachet of 3.5g each, which is the daily recommended dose. You can mix it into water, juice or even put it into your meal. I look 1 sachet a day without missing a single day in order to achieve the best results. The powder is pretty tasteless so it doesn't alter the taste of your food or drink, but it has a very slight sweet taste if tried separately. I mixed mine in about 250ml of water each day and drank it. Just be careful because once I used cold water and it clumped up and became quite difficult to dissolve. So I'd suggest mixing it into room temperature water, tea or soup.

The results for me weren't what I expected. The first 3 weeks were ok, but I wouldn't say my skin got clearer. But in the last week of taking the supplement, I experienced major breakout. I finished the last sachet and after about 2 weeks of taking care of my skin, my skin is a lot better.

Like with all products, it might work differently for different people, and even though it didn't work for me, I've seen reviews from other bloggers who had great results. Acne is due to different things, mine apparently is very hard to cure. Help: Clear skin is a bit pricey, but I think it is definitely worth a try.

Overall Summary
Price -  approx. £22.94 {14 sachet pack}
Likes - easy to take.
Dislikes - Pricey.
Verdict - I will not be taking this.

Walking by the sunset

Blazer*: CelebLook   |   Blouse: Ebay   |   Jeans*: House of Fraser   |   Wedges: Stradivarius   |   Bag: Primark   |   Sunglasses: H&M

Another week has gone by and I am so happy it is almost the weekend as I am exhausted. Anyway, last weekend we went for an evening stroll towards the sunset and I knew exactly what I wanted to wear. Since receiving this Floral Two Pocket Button Down Fitted Blazer, I've been thinking of the best way to style it. And once my Mango Belle Skinny Jeans arrived, it all sort of made sense right away. It's obvious a black blazer would look amazing white jeans.

The flowers on the blazer are lovely, they really brighten up the black. Also the blazer is made of slightly elastic material which makes it very comfortable. I think this blazer is a great item to have in your closet because it can be worn to the office {who says office clothes have to be boring?!} as well as styled casually with jeans or shorts. I chose to style it with white skinny jeans as it is getting a bit chilly in the evenings. The white jeans are stretchy and are tightly woven and as such give the appearance of trousers from afar, which I love when it comes to white jeans. The last item of clothing was my yellow chiffon blouse which I've worn quite a bit this Summer.

That day, I was in the mood to get a bit dressed up so I decided to go for an evening look with black wedges and my black cross body bag. I really loved how it all came together and my family said I looked fabulous, which is always nice to hear.

My biggest challenge that day was not touching my face at all, so I don't transfer any of my makeup to my hands and stain my perfectly white jeans. If you have any tips on how to take care of white jeans/ trousers/ shorts so they remain so perfect, please let me know.

What do you think about my outfit?

Review: Catrice Eyeliner Pen Waterproof

Hello beauties. I hope you all had a fab weekend. I spent mine having a great time with my family. Now it's time to once again talk about eyeliners. During the summer, I usually stay away from eyeliners unless it's for an evening out, as I usually just stick to natural makeup in all the heat. A while back I reviewed the Essence 'Stays no matter what' 24h waterproof eyeliner pen, and I didn't like it much. You can read my review to understand why exactly. So I decided to try out the Eyeliner Waterproof Pen from Catrice, and can say this one is much better.

Catrice Eyeliner Pen Waterproof
Catrice Eyeliner Pen Review
Catrice Eyeliner Pen Waterproof Review
Catrice Eyeliner Pen Waterproof Swatch

It comes in your standard eyeliner pen packaging and has a pointed felt tip which is great as it lets me create thin lines. For thin lines, I carefully use the tip around my eyes and if I'd like a thicker line, I just hold the pen at a flatter angle. The eyeliner pen is available only in black, and what I really like about it is how deep the black is. You can easily achieve a thin or thick black line with just 1 application. The felt tip of the pen doesn't become soft quickly which means you can make a perfect flick every time you use it.

Staying power of the Catrice Pen Waterproof Eyeliner is great. I usually wear mine for about 8+ hours a day and it stays in place even when it is really hot. Waterproof wise, I'm not very convinced because I tested it under a string of tap water and it was fine, but once I started rubbing it while it was wet, it all just cleaned off.

So in general, I am quite happy with this eyeliner pen, but I would not recommend going swimming in it or rubbing your eyes while you've got a wet face.

Overall Summary
Price -  approx. €3.50
Likes - price, felt tip, good staying power.
Dislikes - Comes off if rubbed under water.
Verdict - Trying out a new brand.
Available - Douglas

Matte Neon Yellow NOTD

Hello beauties. I hope you are all having a great weekend. Today I thought I'd share my current nail polish. A while back, I stopped by Flormar looking for an eyebrow pencil to try out and while I was there I obviously got interested in a few more bits. One of which was the Neon Yellow nail polish and the other was the Mattifying nail polish.

I have wanted both of these for a while and was so glad to finally get my hands on them. So as soon as I had a minute, I painted them both on my nails and I am loving it!

Flormar Matte Neon Yellow Nail Polish
Mattifying nail polish and neon yellow nail polish

Don't they look lovely?! My nails are so bright and matte, I think they draw a bit of attention to them. Which I have no problem with since my nails are currently very healthy, strong and long. I cannot wait to try the matte polish on more colours. I'll post reviews after a few tries of both nail polishes.

Are you brave enough to wear neon yellow nail polish?

Pom Poms and Palm trees

Lately in Barcelona, the weather hasn't been great. There have been quite a few cold days which means it's soon goodbye to my Summer wardrobe and welcome scarfs & boots. But before I say goodbye to Summer, I got one more warm day and was able to take pictures of one last summer outfit featuring a lovely playsuit from CelebLook.  .

When I was contacted my CelebLook, I was excited to see what they have to offer on the website. And when I saw the White Lace Pom Pom Playsuit*, I just knew it was my favourite item on the entire site.

I really fell in love with the playsuit after it arrived. The colour fits my skin perfectly, especially after getting a tan this Summer. Lace is a trendy material and makes the playsuit look so much nicer than if it would be made out of chiffon or some polyester. And the cutest thing of all are the pom poms!

For this OOTD, I decided to style the playsuit with a white bandeau and my new floral trainers from Primark. To complement the green flowers on the shoes, I went for my favourite aqua sunglasses. I loved the overall combination.

Let me know what you think of the outfit.
