Review: Dr Jart Black Label Detox O2 Cleansing Foam

Dr. Jart Black Label Detox O2 Cleansing Foam
Dr. Jart O2 Cleansing Foam
Dr. Jart Black Label Detox O2 Cleansing Foam Swatch

Skincare is a huge part of my life and as I try to find the perfect routine, I'm always testing out new products. I've tried out quite a few from the Dr.Jart including the Dr.Jart Pore Medic Pore Minish Cleansing Bubble and the Dr.Jart Pore Medic Pore Purifying Mask. Now I've been giving the Dr.Jart Black Label Detox O2 Cleansing Foam* a go and if I told you in my post on the Pore Medic Pore Minish Cleansing Bubble that I loved it, I'm about to tell you about one better.

The Dr. Jart Black Label Detox O2 Cleansing Foam is a thick, creamy product which comes in a sturdy tube of 100ml making it travel friendly. Believe me when I say this is a lot more than I sometimes get with a 150 or 200ml cleanser, because a little goes a very long way with this product. Very cliche, I know, but it is true. It contains oxygenated water and lycopene which detoxify and purify the skin, lemon extract which is great for brightening and exfoliating the skin, green tea and blueberry extracts which are great antioxidants, as well as other great ingredients. The cleanser is supposed to detoxify the skin, remove dead skin cells and improve the appearance of your skin.

I've been using this product as my daily cleanser at night as I feel that is when my skin needs a proper clean and detox from all the makeup I wore that day. The product lathers really well and I personally use more or less depending on if I feel I need to or not.

The O2 Cleansing Foam works very well for getting rid of all the dirt and any makeup left on my face after I took off my makeup with makeup remover. It also gets rid of all the oil that has built up on the surface of my face without drying out my skin, which I find is definitely a win in my book because if you dry out oily skin, it just produces more oil which is definitely not what you are looking for. This is also one cleanser which has helped with controlling my acne which is why I love it. The only downside I feel there is to this product is that it isn't freely available in Europe.

The Dr. Jart Black Label Detox O2 Cleanser retails for $24 which I think is a good price because it lasts a very long time and works very well for my skin. So overall, I am extremely happy with this cleanser and am looking to purchase it.

Overall Summary
Price - $24.
Likes - detoxifies, brightens and improves overall appearance.
Dislikes - None.
Verdict - I am looking into purchasing it.
Available - Sephora.

Curly Hair Products Haul

Even before I began my transition, I was always interested in trying out products catered for African hair. But since I couldn't find any such stores in Latvia, I sort of just stuck with drugstore products. Once I moved to Spain, I found the closest afro cosmetics store and went and got myself a few bits. Since then, I've been going to afro stores more than the drugstore for hair products.

Recently, I found another store La Bella Cosmetics which has a wider range of products than my usual store and immediately had to place an order. I restocked some old favourites like the Dark & Lovely Corrective Leave-in and the Dark & Lovely Ultra Cholesterol Intensive treatment {which made an appearance in my Hair Growth Journey 1 year update}, and then got a few new products to try out.

I also got some items on iherb as I find this is a great store for natural oils. I got a huge jar of coconut oil because coconut oil penetrates very well into your hair and is great for sealing in moisture daily. I've been using it for over a year and you might have seen it feature in my 2013 Haircare Routine. I think this is a great product for natural hair, transitioning hair or relaxed hair and would definitely recommend you try it.

You can watch my video for all the details on the other products I got, and don't forget to give it a thumbs up and subscribe to my channel

All products mentioned in the video:
Dark and Lovely Corrective Leave-in
Dark and Lovely Ultra Cholesterol Intensive Treatment
Hollywood Beauty Tea Tree Oil Skin & Scalp Treatment
Kuza 100% African Shea Butter
Clere Pure Glycerin
Jarrow Formulas Coconut Oil
Now Pure Rosemary Oil

Work Wear Wishlist: Plain

After working from home for a while, I am going back to the office. I am grateful for the experience my current job has given me, and the nice people I met, but it's time I move on to something else.

Since we're on the topic of going back to the office, let me tell you that after going through my closet, what I realised was that I have mostly been buying casual wear and therefore have very little to put together business casual outfits. Therefore, I have been hunting down all the best clothing stores trying to find items I love. After going through loads, I was able to put together a few of my favourite plain items {I will probably do a post on printed items too}.

I've sort of stuck to some standard office colours that aren't too attention grabbing as I'm not too sure what it's going to be like. The only item I chose in a rather bright colour was a pair of neon pink court shoes which actually look rather like coral to me, and you know I am a sucker for coral so they were just too lovely not to include.

I think the items I chose are a great start or addition to anyone's work closet because you can easily mix and match them with casual pieces you already have in your closet for a business casual look.

What are your favourite places to shop for work wear?

5 ways to use a white eyeliner pencil

Ways to use a white eyeliner, many ways to use a light eyeliner

Do you own a white eyeliner pencil? If you don't I definitely suggest getting yourself one  {or more} because it is such a versatile product. I've got the MUA Intense Colour Eyeliner Pencil in Snow White which is just £1 {you can read my full review on the product} and it is an amazing product to have in your collection.

Here are some of the ways you can use this one product but achieve different end results:

1. As an eyeliner

We all own black eyeliners right? So why should the white eyeliner be any different. You can use it like you would use a regular black eyeliner to create so many different looks starting from using it to create a white cat eye, applying it under your eye and black eyeliner on top, tracing your entire eye & dragging out the bottom line, and the list goes on. You just have to be a tad bit creative. It looks absolutely amazing.

2. Applying it to your waterline

Applying it to your waterline makes your eyes look bigger because it gives off the illusion that the sclera {which is the white part of the eye} is larger than it actually is. Hence giving you a more awake, brighter appearance.

3. Brightening your inner corners

Brightening the inner corners of my eyes with a white eyeliner pencil is something I started doing lately because it brigthens your face. I also think it gives the illusion that you put a lot more effort into your makeup than you actually did. I think it goes very well with a bold lip like I did in my review of the Flormar Waterproof Lipliner in 224.

4. As a highlighter

If your white eyeliner is creamy enough and you are light in complexion, you can easily use it as a highlighter. Just apply it to all the areas you normally would {that is, you forehead, down your nose, on your upper cheeks & on your cupid's bow} and blend it all out. I've tried this trick for under my eyebrows and think it worked really well. It didn't work as well for highlighting my entire face though.

5. As an eyeshadow base

Eye shadow bases/ primers are important if you'd like your look to stay put all day without creasing or looking like you took a nap on your face. So if you've run out of your eye primer or forgot it and flew off on a trip, don't worry because you can always use your white eyeliner pencil for this. I find that creamier white eyeliners work best for this as well. Just do a few strokes of eyeliner on your eyelid and then blend it out with your finger. It will make your eyeshadow more vivid and will keep it in place all day long.

Isn't it great when you can reuse one product in so many different ways? All the options above also work well with a beige or gold eyeliner pencil. I am on the hunt for one, so be sure to let me know of any in the comments.

Any other suggestions on how to use a white eyeliner pencil?

Home Office/ Beauty Room {The Before}

Home Office, Beauty Room, Woman cave - The Before

When I was little I had a huge vanity area in my bedroom and I remember how great it felt getting ready in front of the mirror. After going through pinterest and seeing those amazing looking room closets with shelves for shoes, a vanity area, clothes and bags carefully organized. Honestly, it makes half the girls drool and wish their room was like that. I am also guilty of wishing mine was. Ever since I started blogging, I've wanted a beauty room where I can go to get ready everyday, organize all my makeup and other stuff.

When we moved into our apartment, I knew right away that my wish had been granted because there was a small room down the hall. It isn't as large as I'd have wanted, but it is still perfect. You can call this room my Home Office, Beauty Room, Woman cave, Studio or whatever else you'd like. It is all of it. This is the room where I take most of my blog pictures and film videos for my youtube channel, it is also the room where I store all my makeup and get ready whenever I'm going out, and finally it is the room in which I design all my jewellery for Vanilla Shimmer.

Ever since we moved in, I've wanted to redesign this room so it looks the way I like and is pinterest worthy, but for some reason I just never had the time. Now that it is Spring, I can finally start with my redesign. As this is a rented apartment, I will try to make as few holes and dents as possible. I started the redesigning off this week by painting the room. Everything else will follow.

Please let me know your favourite home decor shops, so I can go check them out and order myself some lovely things for my new beauty room. I am extremely excited to see how it all comes together and I will share the final results with you once it is ready.

What does your perfect beauty room look like?

Mooncats Cosy Winter Scarf

Mooncats Cosy Winter Scarf
Mooncats Scarf
Fluffy snuggly black winter scarf

A while ago, I was contacted by the Mooncats team and asked if I'd be interested in reviewing one of their scarves. I love snuggly winter scarves so I accepted and was very excited for it to arrive.

Mooncats is a fashion accessories brand which stocks items such as scarves, gloves, winter hats and head wraps for women; as well as scarves for men. Their products are available exclusively online, so make sure to visit them and check them out.

I was sent the Black Cosy Winter scarf* from their infinity scarves range which is made of acrylic but it is very warm, super soft and comfortable. It is a gorgeous fluffy black scarf which goes with everything. I love it, and I'm so grateful for this scarf on cold days. I also really like that it goes around my head twice perfectly without ruining whatever hairstyle I have that day. The scarf retails for $39.95 on their website and is available to everyone as they have International Shipping.

The mooncats team has been kind enough to provide a discount code for all my readers, so if you'd like one of their gorgeous pieces, make sure to enter STYLEOFCOLOURS30OFF for 30% off all their scarves.

Anyone else love fluffy snuggly scarves like I do?

5 Background ideas for blog photos

5 Background ideas for blog photos
As time goes by, we learn and get better at the things we constantly work on. Blogging is no exception. Photography is one aspect of my blog I am always working on as I believe a picture does make a big difference in how your blog is viewed. I like to share whatever knowledge I have with other bloggers, to help them in whatever way I can. If you're a beauty blogger, product reviews are something you might have a lot of on your blog and using stock photos just doesn't look good. It's much better when you take the photos yourself. But for that, you need a good background.

If you missed my post earlier on ideas for a White Background for Blog Photos, make sure to check it out because it offers budget friendly solutions. In this post, I'd like to talk about the other options we have for backgrounds. I think it's important to keep the background light and clutter free when taking pictures for product reviews as this helps make the product stand out better.

Here are a few of my suggestions of what else you can use. You can play around with a few of these and see what works best for you.

1. Photo frames

Using frames as a background for blog photos

Photo frames with inspirational quotes in them can make a very good option for a background when taking pictures of products. My favourite ones are white frames with a coloured quote in the frame, but I don't have any of those yet, so I used one I did for demonstration.
Unless you're using a very large frame, it will probably not be big enough to act as the full background in your picture {this will also depend on what type of camera & lens you are using}. So, what I would suggest is either use your table top or another of the options which you prefer {If you don't have a light table top, I would suggest using a white cardboard}.

2. Magazines

Using magazines as a background for blog photos
Do you love reading about all the latest celeb gossip and have subscriptions to at least one magazine? Well why not get a bit more for your money while you're at it. If you don't have a subscription, don't worry because some shops usually have free copies of small magazines of their new collections or something similar. I know not everyone loves these magazine pictures, but I think they are interesting. So if you do too, then go ahead and give it a try. Here are two ways you can use a magazine as a background:
- As a full background: You can use the magazines as the full background if you're taking a picture of one or two products, like I have done.
- As a partial background: If you're taking a picture of more products that may not fit on a magazine page or just want another option, then you can do a partial magazine background. In this case, you'll need to either use your table top or another of the options which you prefer, just like with the frames.

3. Fluffy rug

Using rugs as a background for blog photos
I'm guessing this point is self explanatory. If you've got a pretty fluffy rug in your bedroom, just throw your beauty products on it and get to work.

4. Plates

Using plates as a background for blog photos

Another item which can be found in your home and I think makes an amazing background for blog photos are plates. You can arrange some of your beauty products in the plate and add a gorgeous necklace or some rings here and there to make it a bit more interesting, then take a flat shot of your products. I really like white and gold or pastel plates.

5. Bed sheet

Using your bedsheet as a background for blog photos
I mentioned this as a background option in my post about white backgrounds for blog photos, but you can also use bedsheets with other designs which you like. They are available to everyone, and you can either just put the products on your bed and take photos, or get some clean sheets which would cover up whatever mess {yes, sometimes there is a mess all around when taking blog photos} you've got and give you a lovely base for your pictures.

Those are my current ideas for what bloggers can use as backgrounds for product photography for a review on their blogs. I can already see which ones I like the most. I'm going to be switching up my photography to include some of these ideas.

Do you have any more background ideas? Please share them.

How to style a printed top, How to wear a trench coat

Last week we had some friends over from the UK for hub's birthday, so he decided to rent a car while they are here. I think they had a lot of fun visiting us, and we had a fab party on Friday. On Sunday, hubs took them to the airport and then we had the car for the rest of the day so we decided to play tourist and visited Pineda de Mar and Blanes.

I was feeling quite lazy on Sunday so I went for jeans and a top I recently got from Primark. The birds on the top are really cute, but it's still quite a simple shirt. So I decided to play it up with accessories. I chose this lovely scarf which was a gift from hub's aunt, and because my hair is getting slightly crazy and I ran out of ideas on how to style it, I decided to put it under a hat. Because we were going to beach/hill areas, I decided to wear flats so I'm comfortable climbing around and these plimsoles went well with the outfit. Lastly, I decided to take my new Michael Kors Jet Set Tote which was a birthday present from hubs.

Now a bit about our lovely trip. It took us less than an hour to get to Pineda de Mar from Barcelona, and we went straight for the beach. When I saw the boats at the beach, I knew it was the perfect spot for outfit photos. The only downside was that it was extremely sunny and I forgot my sunglasses in the car, so I couldn't look properly at the camera.

Let me know how you would style either of these pieces.

Review: L'Oreal True Match Liquid Foundation

L'Oreal True Match Liquid FoundationL'oreal true match foundation review
L'oreal true match liquid foundation in W7 review
L'oreal true match liquid foundation W7 swatch

Foundation is something I struggle to pick at the drugstore because I have a very yellow undertone, so even those made for warmer skintones still look too pink on me and do not match with my neck. I picked up the shade D7.W7 Golden Amber and it looked perfect while I was at the store, but then I came home and applied a full face and saw it was too pink/ dark. But even though this foundation doesn't match me perfectly right now {I'm hoping it will once I get a bit of a tan}, I thought I'd still review it as I've got a bit to say.

Packaging wise, I am extremely satisfied. I love that it comes with a pump and honestly don't mind that it is in a glass bottle because almost all the foundations I've tried come in a glass bottle and I'm so used to it. The foundation itself is a nice liquid consistency which isn't too runny. It is light to medium coverage, applies smoothly and blends well during application. The end result is a sheer finish base which looks natural.

Now, even though I know a lot of people love this foundation and it works well even for some with oily skin, it just isn't cutting it for me. Partly because the shade range doesn't get yellow enough. But mostly because it just doesn't stay on for very long with my oily skin. Even when I use a mattifying primer underneath, it doesn't last as long as I'd like before a touch up is required. That being said, I think it is perfectly normal since it isn't a matte foundation. I just had higher expectations after seeing this foundation in the top 5 for some bloggers/ vloggers with oily skin. Another reason this isn't my favourite drugstore foundation is because of the coverage. I prefer my foundation with a bit more coverage so I can cover up my acne scarring.

So overall I think this product will work very well for you if you have normal skin with pink undertones and need a foundation to even out your skintone.

Overall Summary
Price - approx. €17.
Likes - applies smoothly, blends well.
Dislikes - isn't longlasting, light-medium coverage.
Verdict - Not repurchasing.
Available - Drugstores e.g DRUNI {Spain}, Boots, Superdrug.

Review: Essence Longlasting Lipstick in 'On The Catwalk!'

Essence Longlasting Lipstick Review
Essence Longlasting lipstick in On The Catwalk!
Essence Lipstick On The Catwalk Review, Great drugstore lipsticks
Essence Longlasting Lipstick in On The Catwalk Swatch
Essence Lipstick Review

Essence is a brand I find myself constantly reaching for while at the drugstore. This is mainly because most of the products I've tried from this brand are good and very affordable. I absolutely adore the Essence longlasting lipsticks and the shade I most recently got is On The Catwalk!

The product comes in a matte black tube which I personally think makes it look a bit more expensive than it actually is. These lipsticks are available in a range of colours from nudes to reds which means you'd probably be able to find one that suits you. The lipstick is creamy and applies smoothly on the lips. It feels quite moisturizing and I find that it doesn't dry up your lips during the time of wear. On The Catwalk is a gorgeous brick red colour which I think is a much easier colour to wear than bright red for an everyday look. I have been reaching for this shade a lot lately and find that it goes well with most of my outfits.

The only thing that I feel is a bit of a minus for this lipstick is the staying power. Even though it says longlasting lipstick, it actually lasts just a few hours. I find it ok for days when I'm just going for spanish lessons or running a few errands, but if you're going to wear it all day or eat something while wearing this lipstick, you'll have to reapply a few times. But honestly, for this price and pigmentation, I love it and I really don't mind reapplying.

Overall Summary
Price - approx. €2.40.
Likes - applies smoothly, pigmented.
Dislikes - isn't longlasting.
Verdict - Purchasing more shades.
Available - Drugstores e.g DRUNI {Spain}.

Have you tried any of the Essence Longlasting Lipsticks?
