I recently had the pleasure to spend a few days in the North of Spain and visit Rialp, Sort, Espot and Llavorsi, all of which are located in Lleida, Catalonia. These are all in the north of Lleida and are about a 3.5 hours drive from Barcelona, but if you've got music and good company it goes by in a breeze. We set off Saturday morning and had a hotel booked in Rialp. On the way, we stopped by Sort for a bit of exploring and some lunch, then we headed off to the hotel.

Our entire Sunday was spent at the National Park of Aiguestortes where we went hiking to take in the amazing views and beautiful mountains. The trail we took wasn't too difficult, and after getting to a large section of the river with a stunning view, we had a bit of a rest and some lunch prior to heading back. The mountains weren't the only things we admired, while hiking we also came across some cute calves and horses. Up into the mountains and then back, we hiked a total of about 19km.

On the last day, we had planned Rafting in Llavorsi. Considering I wasn't feeling too well, I wasn't sure I wanted to still go ahead with it because I knew there was a possibility of getting wet, and since it was quite a cold day I didn't want my flu to get even worse. Finally, I braved it up and got dressed in the wetsuit and jacket, put on my helmet and off we went. Honestly, best decision ever! We had such a great time and it was so much fun. I will definitely be doing it again, except maybe this time I'd be smart enough to bring my helmet strap for the action camera so I can record it all.

Any suggestions on where in Spain or Europe I should visit next?

Travel: Mini vacation to Ibiza

Boat ride Ibiza to Formentera

Pink Sunset in Ibiza

Ibiza is one place I've wanted to go for a while, and this year I was finally able to do it. We stayed at a friend's house which is beautiful, and we had the pleasure of having a private pool. How cool is that? We went for just 4 days and had a bit of relax time as well as some fun & partying.

We stopped by a few beaches like Sa Caleta which is on the southern coast of Ibiza, Cala Conta which has beautiful turquoise waters and three different beach areas, and Cala Carbo which is only a 10 minute drive from San Jose. Cala Carbo is a combination of sand and pebbles and is a beautiful snorkelling spot. This is my favourite one from those we visited.

As for clubs, we visited Ushuaia, Pacha and Hï. It was a lot of fun but partying in Ibiza is pretty expensive. Lucky we were able to get some free entrances. We also rented a boat which took us to Formentera with a few stops on the way for snorkelling and cliff jumping. I was so scared cliff jumping because I knew the jelly fishes were in the water, but it was so much fun. One of my friends actually jumped from a cliff that is about 20m high which I honestly thought was crazy but at the same time it inspired me and made me want to do it as well {I didn't in the end, for fear my food would not accept such a challenge}.

We were so relaxed I honestly didn't do as much filming or take as much photos as I was planning. But hopefully you enjoy this post anyway. Make sure you watch the video and subscribe to my youtube channel for more travel & lifestyle videos.

If you're considering going to Ibiza, I'd recommend going during the warmer months of June - August as the weather wasn't very kind at nights in September. But there's always something to see in Ibiza no matter the weather.

How did you spend your summer vacation?

Travel: Day trip to Girona City, Spain

Top places to visit in Girona, Spain

My friends and I recently visited Girona, a beautiful city in Spain. The coast of Girona is a place I frequently visit in the summer because the beaches are amazing. Most of my snorkelling days are spent in this region. But Girona city center is also a must see because of it's beautiful architecture and historical spots. The city got a lot more popular for tourist activities after the 6th season of Game of Thrones was filmed there.

We had a lovely day walking around, having lunch and taking about a million pictures while spending the day together.

Getting there

By Car - Getting to Girona City by car is pretty easy and only takes about 1hr. Once you are out of the city, take the AP7 and follow this highway until you are in Girona.
By bus - You can take the Sagales bus from Barcelona to Girona which would cost approximately 30 Euros for a roundtrip.
By train - The high speed AVE train will take you from Barcelona (Barcelona Sants) to Girona city in about 40-45 minutes and would cost you about 20-25 Euros.

What to do

While visiting the Girona city, you have to stop by the Girona Cathedral which is where the scene of the Queen Margaery's Atonement was filmed.
The Onyar River is a must see. The colourful houses which line the river added even more beauty to the architecture of the city in the 20th century. The Jewish Quarters is another important location as it is one of the best preserved in the world. The narrow streets are a pleasure to explore.

You also have to take a walk along the Girona Wall/ Passeig de la Muralla which was build by the Romans but later extended and restored. If you're in the kissing mood, you can visit the El Cul de La Lleona (Lioness' Bottom) which is located in Placa Sant Feliu and give the bum a kiss. It is said that those who kiss the bum of the lion will return to Girona.
Some other must visit spots include the Church of Sant Feliu, , Rambla de la Llibertat, Eiffel Bridge/ Pont de les Peixateries Velles & Placa Independencia.

So If you're visiting Barcelona, why not take a day trip and check out the amazing architecture, streets and views in Girona City.

I didn't quit blogging (Update on where I've been)

It's been a while I sat down to write a post and a lot has happened in this time. Firstly, it was because I wasn't quite feeling like blogging anymore and it began to feel more like a chore. Having to stay in during the warm summer evenings or weekends just wasn't something I was looking forward to. I wanted to go out and live, socialize and experience new things. And even though I wanted to keep posting and sharing my experiences with you, it just kind of took the back sit.

During this time, I also had some changes in my personal life which I am still adjusting to but I'm finally feeling better and a lot more like myself. This weekend, I spent some time at home and finally felt like writing again so I thought I'd give you a short update and let you know I'm not gone for good. I'm still unsure how often I'll be able to post as my creativity has been affected by all that's happened. But I'm looking forward to getting into the flow of things again.

In a week, I'm off to Ibiza with my friends and I'll be sharing my trip on instagram stories, so be sure to follow me at @styleofcolours to stay up to date with what we're up to. I'm also looking forward to filming the trip and taking lots of pictures. If you have any suggestions on must visit places, clubs or restaurants we should go to, please let me know.

I hope you all had a great summer. I'm glad to be back.

Photographer in Barcelona (Anita Nebo Photography)

Anita Nebo Photography Blogger Photoshoot

Blogging involves photography and even though I fell in love with photography before blogging, blogging has helped me improve a lot with my photography. I still remember the quality of the photos in my posts from my first year of blogging, and honestly, they make me cringe. With time, I started getting better at it. I read a lot about photography, about using manual mode, understanding Aperture & ISO, editing with Photoshop & Lightroom, and shooting in RAW. I enjoy learning new things about photography & putting them in action.

At the end of last year, I finally decided to create an instagram account for my photography and Anita Nebo Photography was born. I've done some TFP (Time for Print) work and been trying to build my photography as a business. I've created a facebook page and I'm working on creating an online portfolio.

I'm loving this new journey I've started on. I'm really enjoying meeting new people and helping them realize their imagination in the form of photography. It would be my pleasure to shoot with some of my readers and blogging friends, so if you're visiting Barcelona and would like to book a photo session, check out my social media & contact me at anebophoto@gmail.com.

5 Things I am Thankful for this Month {April}

Things I am Thankful for this month

This year I'm trying to focus more on the positive, because lots of times we get consumed with complaining and negativity, and forget to pay attention to the positive things that happen in our lives. Big or small, it doesn't really matter, they all count, and I want to encourage everyone to pay a bit more attention to them. It will definitely make you happier.

1. The weather

Spring & Summer are my favourite seasons because the weather is warmer, flowers start to bloom and the days get longer meaning I can do some photography after work. And if you didn't know, I've got an Instagram & Facebook page as a photographer, and I would love you to support me there as well.

2. My partner

This month marks 8 years I've known him and we've been together. We aren't perfect and we have our ups and downs, but we love each other and he supports me. In these years, we've changed. We've both grown into adults, moved to a different country and have much more responsibilities than before. I'm looking forward to the 90 more years we spend together {soz for the cheesiness}

3. My Dog Candy for being so understanding

We recently got a kitten and candy has been such a good and understanding pup in regards to this. She grew up with a cat so it wasn't totally new to her but he's still a kitten and always wants to play with her, and she's already 6 years old so doesn't find it as interesting. I'm sure Leo pisses her off sometimes, but she loves him anyway.

4. New adventures

I'm learning how to skate with a longboard. It isn't easy and I'm scared of hills and uneven ground, but I'm getting better and more confident. So far, I have fallen once. I can't wait for next month to get my own board and practice some more.

5. Family & Great friends

Between an allergy reaction to feeling bad about my photography, I had some down moments this month when I doubted myself. All through this, my family and friends supported me and made me feel a lot better. I appreciate having such amazing people who care about me.

Tell me a couple of things that you're thankful  for this month, big & small?

Natural Hair Growth Journey: Start

Natural Hair Growth Journey

It has been over 2 years since I started my transition to natural hair. If you're interested in my journey so far, you can check out my posts on why I decided to go natural, the struggles I faced, how it felt to be newly natural and some tips on transitioning from relaxed to natural hair. I love my natural hair and my goal is to grow it as long as I possibly can. I would like you to join me on that journey as I document it all on the blog.

I'm starting off with a length check and a list of products that I am currently using. As time passes, I will change some of the products and I hope to be able to keep you updated every 3 or 6 months, to see how much my hair has grown and what I have been doing to achieve the results.

Natural Hair Growth Journey: Length Check, Products and more

Current haircare schedule

I moisturize my hair daily using water and leave-in conditioner if my hair isn't in a protective style such as braids. Once or Twice a week I cowash my hair to get rid of the dirt and add moisture to my hair. If you don't know what cowashing is, you can find all the details in my post on cowashing. I also try to deep condition every weekend with a moisturizing hair mask or a protein mask. Once a month, I prepoo and then shampoo my hair. This usually depends on how much product I have been using lately and how dirty my hair feels.

Current products being used

I was hoarding a bit on the product end as I'm always looking for new products to try in order to find my favourites. So I do have quite a few variations of certain products (I think I may have too many oils). Recently, I've been trying to stay away from buying lots of hair products which serve the same purpose in the hopes to use up the ones I have.

Some of the products I am currently using include:

Treatments  - DIY Protein mask, Novex Coconut Oil Deep Conditioning Hair Mask
Oils - Olive Oil, Avocado Oil, Jamaican Mango & Lime Black Castor Oil, Jojoba Oil, Argan Oil, Dabur Amla Hair Oil.

Now moving on to the length check. I think it's more difficult to do length checks on curly hair due to shrinkage, but I've done my best to show the current length. I'll be using the same stripped t-shirt so it's easier to track the difference between the pictures.

Hair Growth Journey Start Length Check

What are some of your tips for hair growth? I'd love to include them in my journey.

My Go To Products For A Daily Natural Look

Makeup products I use daily

I love trying out new beauty products, whether it's the new lipstick by Maybelline, or that amazing mascara from Rimmel everyone is raving about. I may have lots of makeup but in the end there are only a handful of products which I use daily. These are pretty much my staples, although I would occasionally switch up the products. Either way, the overall look is very similar.

Face

After cleansing and toning, I apply a thin layer of my current acne treatment and then moisturizer. For moisturizers, I usually vary between the Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel for oily skin, the Neutrogena Pink Grapefruit Oil-free Acne Moisturizer or the IQ Natural AHA Moisturizer. To control my oily skin, I use the Inglot Mattifying Under Makeup Base. After this, it's time to apply foundation. My foundation is one product I don't usually switch because of how difficult it is to match the right shade with my yellow undertone. So I have been st the MAC Studio Fix Fluid SPF 15 in shade NC42, and usually apply a base layer before applying some more on areas with dark acne scars. If needed, I will use some concealer for under eye circles.

Eye makeup products I use daily

Eyes

Next, I move on to my eyebrows and I always use the MAC Fluidline Brow Gelcreme and the Rimmel Brow This Way Brow Styling Gel. I usually go for a full brow. You can check out all the details in my post about my Current Eyebrow Routine. Once I'm done with my brows, I apply one coat of transparent mascara to prime my lashes, and then two coats of mascara. For mascara, I've been loving the Rimmel Extra 3D Lash Mascara because it gives me both volume and length. If I've got a bit more time, I apply eyeshadow. My daytime colours are dark brown and gold for a neutral look.

MAC Brave lipstick for everyday makeup

Lips

My lip choice usually depends on my mood and time availability. But what I never skip is a lip balm or butter. I've got quite a few of these, so I usually go for whichever is closest in the drawer. If I'm running low on time, I do my lips in the car. My current go to lipstick is the MAC Satin finish lipstick in Brave or Cremeshene lipstick in Creme In your Coffee.

Those are pretty much all the products I use at the moment. I used to set my makeup with the Urban Decay De-Slick Setting Spray, but I've recently run out and I'm currently looking for other setting sprays for oily skin, so If you have any recommendations, please let me know.

What products do you reach for on a daily?

Easy To Pack Healthy Snacks For Work

Healthy snacks at work

Eating healthy is great for your body, not just because you're getting all the right nutrients, but also because you will look and feel good. For those who have a 9-6 job, this might sound difficult, but it's not if you plan ahead. We usually do our grocery shopping on Saturdays and I always decide what I'll need for the entire week (including snacks). And whenever I'm going to work, I always pack lunch and snacks so I'm not left hungry. Because once you're feeling hungry at work with no healthy snacks near by, you'll be reaching for nasty junk food which you don't need.

Healthy nuts as snacks at the office

Since I'm at work, I need the snack to be ready and fuss free. I want to be able to get it out and start eating without needing to prep at the office. I usually snack at about 4pm, unless I'm feeling really hungry earlier. I try to vary the snacks daily & weekly to keep me from getting bored. Some of the healthy snacks I pack include:

Fresh fruits as healthy snacks at the office

Fresh Fruits

Fresh fruits are great for snacking because they provide lots of vitamins and are easy to consume. I usually pick fruits like bananas, apples, grapes, kiwis, strawberries and blueberries. I always wash my fruits at home and if needed cut them up, then I'll either put it in a zip lock bag or a container. I also always eat a handful of nuts with my fruits. This provides protein and keeps you full longer.

Dried Fruits

Sometimes I'm not big on prepping food for the next day due to being extremely busy or just so exhausted I can barely make it to bed. For times like this, I always try to keep some dried fruits available at home and work. This way I can skip my food prep that night. My favourite dried fruits are goji berries, cranberries and apricots.

Nuts

Nuts are a great source of protein, and healthy snacks which you can easily have at work. You can keep some at the office or prep them the night before. I usually vary my selection of nuts between almonds and walnuts which haven't been salted. But I'll occasionally have some salted cashew nuts because I've been unable to find them in any other form.

Humus

At some point I didn't like the taste of humus, but now, I don't think you can ever open my refrigerator and not find at least one jar. Humus is a bit messier than the snacks I've suggested above, but it's so good and I love it. You can have some carrots, cucumber or celery with it, as well as rice cakes.

Peanut/Almond Butter

Peanut/Almond butter is another slightly messier alternative but tastes really good. Scoop out a small amount into a jar and take some sliced up apples in a zip lock bag, and you're good to go. You can also make a PB & banana roll as a snack or even for breakfast.

Healthy snacks which are easy to pack and eat at work

Those are some of my current snack selections. You can also make yoghurt with strawberries and banana, or chia pudding as a snack, but these are my less popular choices. Please let me know how you maintain a healthy lifestyle while working an office job.

What other snacks would you recommend for the office?

Celebrations and Exploring Calella, Spain

Calella Beach
Calella Spain Views

Last week I took the week off as it was time to celebrate hubs' 30th birthday. Everyone says turning 30 isn't like every other birthday {I'm yet to find out} so we decided to go big or go home. We had friends flying in from different countries and decided to rent a house outside of Barcelona for the week. Our final choice was a duplex in Calella which had enough sleeping places for all 15 of us, a swimming pool and barbecue, which is pretty much all we needed.

Calella Views

I had a surprise for hubs which I had previously shared on twitter, we got a kitten. Hiding him till Monday was pretty much impossible as we arrived at the house on Saturday. But we still had some surprises up our sleeves. On Monday, we made some helium balloons from a kit I got at Globo Image, got some champagne and picked up a cake to welcome him once he got out of bed. Nothing better than champagne in the morning, to be honest.

Helium balloons from Globo Image
Calella - City, beach and mountains

We spent most days wondering around the city, climbing up to the mountains and drinking loads of alcohol {so now I'm having some alcohol free days}. It is a lovely city, with a clean beautiful beach and it's only 1h away by train or 35mins by car. The perfect place to get away and relax for a week or a weekend. In the summer, you can also go snorkelling, or visit the Water Sports Centre for some water adventures such as snorkelling, scuba diving, jetski and more.

Calella views from above

If you're visiting Barcelona and would like somewhere to relax which is not far but away from all the chaos and craziness of the big city, I'd definitely recommend checking out hotels and houses in Calella. We all had an amazing time and I'd be more than happy to go back.

Where was the last place you visited and what did you do?
